Wacom @ The Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2018
Slowly recovering from a fun weekend with young creatives and artists who created some real icons – like The Simpsons, The Walking Dead or Spideypool. For another year, Wacom sponsored LICAF, The Lakes International Comic Arts Festival in Kendal, UK. It was a blast!
We hosted the Cartoon Café where visitors could relax, shelter from the rain and casually test and try the Wacom MobileStudio Pro. Art students from Kendal College on site helped people with the software and explained the products.
Throughout the two days, several comic artists stopped by at the Café and held demo sessions on the Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 + Engine. Artists included Emma Vieceli, Steve McGarry, Mikiko, Abi Kerner, Luke McGarry, Jake Phillips, and Marc Jackson.
Wacom also held a series of lectures hosted by Glen Southern. We invited students from several colleges and art schools to 3 workshops on how to use ZBrush and a Wacom MobileStudio Pro for their comic art. Students came from Priestley College, the University of Cumbria Institute of the Arts and the Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Impressions from the event:
“I was blown away by the skill level of the art students from Manchester Uni yesterday. These guys and girls had never used ZBrush in their workflow and they just loved it. We focused on shapes and making awesome comic style Mat Caps in Photoshop.” – Glen Southern
“Visiting the Lakes International Comic Art Festival yesterday with some of my students was a great opportunity. Taking part in an industry workshop with Glen Southern who is one of the best in the business for Zbrush was a great experience for the students. But when you couple that with Wacom supplying you with the forefront in technology and hardware it really does give you a look at the future of the creative industry. Wacom are changing the way we use digital tools and hardware not just in industry but education as well. ” – Matthew Wilson, teacher at Priestley College
